By an act
of Congress -- initiated by private citizens -- a World War I Centennial
Commission has been established to work with commissions representing other
participating countries.
Veterans
Day, November 11th, originally marked the armistice to end World War I,
which took effect on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh
month of 1918.

WASPs were
classified as civilian pilots, with a promise that they would later be
classified as military. Instead, in December 1944, as the war's end
approached, the program was disbanded.

was adopted as a saint to the military and his day falls on November 11th,
the same day as Armistice Day and now Veterans Day. Is this a coincidence,
or something more?
