Applauds Justice Department Action Against Iranian Hacker Network
New
York, NY - United
Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) CEO, Ambassador Mark D. Wallace today
applauded the United States Department of Justice for bringing
criminal indictments against an Iranian hacker network working at the
behest of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
"I applaud the
Department of Justice for taking swift and decisive action against
the Iranian regime's state-sponsored hacking campaign targeting
American businesses, universities and government agencies,"
Ambassador Wallace said. "These charges are unsurprising given
the regime's extensive and well-documented history of using
cyberwarfare to target its own citizens and foreign entities.
Numerous businesses have also fallen victim to intellectual property
theft, while others have pulled their investments out of the region
due to concerns about the security of proprietary information, trade
secrets, and confidential data.
"Doing
business with Tehran will inevitably lead to the hacking and theft of
proprietary information, trade secrets, confidential employee and
corporate information, personal information, and customer information
by Iranian operatives and security agents. Today's announcement
serves as a reminder that there remain serious legal, political,
financial and reputational risks associated with doing business in
Iran, particularly in sectors of the Iranian economy dominated by the
IRGC, which remains sanctioned by the U.S. government and the
international community as a terrorist organization."
