Pakistan Continues To Spiral Into Chaos Posted: 05 May 2009 08:35 PM PDT
When neither a society nor its military can muster the will to identify and Pakistan, as a nation-state, is on a rapid path to implosion, disintegration and then explosion. In short, it matters little what we do with them, what we do for them, what we give them, or what kinds of support we lend Islamabad. Unless Taliban and al-Qaeda terrorists, no matter their heritage, as mortal enemies; and unless and until the Pakistani military can acknowledge this and muster the will to fight them and fight for the diverse society as a Pakistani nation, neither will survive. And the above conditions seem not in the cards. And anointing Nawaz Sharif (ahem) Prime Minister once again may forestall or delay the certainly will not prevent it. I could write a lengthy and heady analysis of the myriad conditions and complexities defining the dismal state of affairs and bleak outlook. But there you have it in a nutshell. For another succinct nutshell with A nation that will not save itself cannot be saved. We will simply have to adjust. And with much alacrity and urgency.
500,000 Flee Swat Valley
Fighting between Taliban militants and troops in a northwestern valley triggered an exodus the government said Tuesday could see 500,000 people flee and signaled the end of a peace deal in the area widely criticized as a surrender to the extremists. Hundreds have already fled the Swat Valley, adding to the hundreds of thousands of existing refugees driven from other regions in the northwest over the last year by fighting between soldiers and insurgents, witnesses said. The deteriorating situation in the valley came as Pakistan’s leader prepared for talks in Washington with President Barack Obama on how to sharpen his country’s fight against Al Qaeda and the Taliban, which are blamed for attacks in both Pakistan and Afghanistan. U.S. officials said Obama would seek assurances from President Asif Ali Zardari that his country’s nuclear arsenal was safe and that the military the United States. Chinese Terrorists Release in U.S. Imminent Posted: 05 May 2009 08:26 PM PDT
Should foreigners picked up conducting terrorist training with Al Qaeda and subsequently held at Guantanamo Bay just be released into our communities, no questions asked? Believe it or not, it could happen. And soon. The Obama administration is ready to release a number of Chinese Muslims, known as Uighurs, held at Guantanamo Bay since 2002 into the United States, according to several recent press reports. Information I have received, however, indicates that the 17 Uighurs being held at Guantanamo may be more dangerous than the public has been led to believe. Both the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security have reportedly raised serious concerns about the release of the 17 detainees, who are said to be members of the Eastern Turkistan Islamic Movement, a terrorist organization affiliated with Al Qaeda. To be clear, we are not talking about transferring these folks to prisons in the United States. They would released, free and clear. They would be
Last Friday, I wrote President Obama asking that all the information about the capture and detention of the 17 Uighurs — including a threat States — be declassified and released to the public. Any intelligence assessment of the Uighurs also must take into account not only their previous training at terrorist camps but their potential subsequent exposure to the likes of Khalid Sheik Mohammed, the mastermind of 9/11 who also took pleasure in beheading Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl. The American people have a right to know all the facts. Following the precedent the Obama administration set in declassifying the to declassify all relevant information related to the Uyghur detainees. Air Force One flying over the Manhattan skyline last week that triggered administration. White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said Tuesday that there was no need to release them. “I’ve watched CNN,” he said, noting the considerable coverage from amateur footage. “I didn’t notice a lack of archival material from that He added that he didn’t know where to locate the photos taken from inside the plane. Last week, the Obama administration sent an Air Force One backup plane to fly over lower Manhattan to capture the presidential plane with the Statue of Liberty in the background. The public was not notified in advance that there was no cause for alarm. Some New Yorkers were reminded of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, chaos as employees evacuated office buildings and emergency President Obama immediately denounced the photo-op, which cost $328,835, calling it “a mistake.” White House Military Office Director Louis Caldera accepted responsibility and apologized for allowing the exercise. Gibbs said he anticipates the internal review will be completed this week.

The list includes hate preachers, anti-gay protesters and an American US talk show host. “I think it’s important that people understand the sorts of values and sorts of standards that we have here, the fact that it’s a privilege to come and the sort of things that mean you won’t be welcome in this country,” Ms Smith told GMTV. “Coming to this country is a privilege. If you can’t live by the rules that we live by, the standards and the values that we live by, we should public those people that we have excluded. “We are publishing the names of 16 of those that we have excluded since October. We are telling people who they are and why it is we don’t want them in this country.” She said the number of people excluded from Britain had risen from an average of two a month to five a month since October. The list of the 16 “least wanted” includes radio talk show host Michael Savage, real name Michael Weiner. “This is someone who has fallen into the category of fomenting hatred, of such extreme views and expressing them in such a way that it is person were allowed into the country,” Ms Smith told BBC Breakfast.
