Surviving Disaster Spike TV

Surviving Disaster Spike TV

For the past few weeks I’ve had the privilege of consulting in research
for an upcoming episode of an incredible new show,
Surviving
Disaster
, scheduled to premiere on Spike TV, Tuesday,
September 1 (10:00-11:00pm ET/PT). Mark this date on your calendar, it’s a
show you won’t want to miss!

Surviving Disaster – Picking up a few last minute
items at the mall when violent gunmen storm the store…what to do? What if,
on the daily subway commute, a bio weapon is released? Or a fire is
blazing in the 12th floor office and the only way out is blocked?
Disasters can strike at the most unexpected times, but Spike TV’s new
original series “Surviving Disaster,” led by Cade Courtley, vividly takes
viewers through catastrophic scenarios and arms them with the knowledge
needed to survive the unthinkable. Navy SEAL Courtley is the ideal host
for this timely series, having faced imminent danger for a living,
conducting clandestine missions from the sea, air and land that include
counter-terrorism operations, special reconnaissance and unconventional
warfare. The series premieres Tuesday, September 1 (10:00-11:00pm ET/PT)
with an episode dedicated to a plane hijacking.

Each week, Navy SEAL Courtley tackles worst-case scenarios and equips
viewers with the practical information needed to save their own lives and
the lives of their loved ones. Whether the threat is natural or man-made
or on a national or personal level, Courtley speaks directly to the
viewers and guides them through a comprehensive, step-by-step process to
not only survive the big picture disaster, but endure the many dangerous
obstacles that may occur within each catastrophic event. While leading
viewers out of danger, Courtley not only provides helpful tips and
hands-on instruction, but swiftly points out common misconceptions and
fatal mistakes. Unlike any other series, “Surviving Disaster” may actually
save lives by providing actions that anyone can perform.

A militant commander who is holding a U.S. soldier abducted in
Afghanistan said Sunday that Taliban leader Mullah Omar’s council is
waiting for a response to its demands before deciding the American’s fate.

U.S. to Hunt Down Afghan Drug Lords Tied to Taliban

Posted: 09 Aug 2009 09:57 PM PDT

AFGHAN DRUGS

Fifty Afghans believed to be drug traffickers with ties to the Taliban
have been placed on a Pentagon target list to be captured or killed,
reflecting a major shift in American counternarcotics strategy in
Afghanistan, according to a Congressional study to be released this
week.

United States military commanders have told Congress that they are
convinced that the policy is legal under the military’s rules of
engagement and international law. They also said the move is an essential
part of their new plan to disrupt the flow of drug money that is helping
finance the Taliban insurgency.

In interviews with the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, which is
releasing the report, two American generals serving in Afghanistan said
that major traffickers with proven links to the insurgency have been put
on the “joint integrated prioritized target list.” That means they have
been given the same target status as insurgent leaders, and can be
captured or killed at any time.

Noordin Top Asian Terror Leader – Dead or Alive?

Indonesian authorities are “very confident” that the man killed during
a dramatic 17-hour standoff Saturday morning is wanted terrorist Noordin
Mohammed Top.

“We had this person under surveillance for a week and followed him
wherever he went,” a source inside the investigation told the daily
Kompas. “We created a detailed profile on him. We knew where he went and
what he ate. We even knew that he always slept in cemeteries.”

The source said Noordin shied away from cell phones but left an
electronic trail on the Internet, which led them to his trusted courier:
the nephew of the man whose home was at the center of the standoff, Indra
Arif Hermawan , who is also known as Arif and Indra. “The courier that
became Noordin’s communications lifeline was Arif. He was picked up before
police descended on the house in Temanggung.”

Arif and his brother Aris Susanto, also known as Hendra, worked at a
motorcycle repair shop in Temanggung and were already known to
authorities. Their cousin, Tataq Lusiyanto, was detained in 2006 for
involvement in the 2003 JW Marriott bombing. Tataq’s father, Mudjahri ,
owned the farm house and is also under suspicion of supporting the
hardline Jemaah Islamiyah network.

However…

Police were so close to catching fugitive Malaysian terrorist Noordin
Mohammad Top that they even managed to photograph him outside a Jakarta
safe house last Thursday.

But after a tension-filled weekend, including live-television
coverage of a country farmhouse being blown up by police bomb squad and
snipers, the discovery of hundreds of kilograms of explosives stashed in
Jakarta and a truck bomb ready to go off in an apparent plot to
assassinate President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, three alleged terrorists
killed and several more arrested, there is just one thing missing.

That, it seems, is Top himself.

Only DNA testing will prove whether a man with half his head blown
off after a 17-hour siege in remote Central Java ended with elite police
storming his hideout is Top. However, indications are firming that it
was someone else.

If that is so, it will be just the latest narrow escape for the
region’s most wanted, and most elusive, terrorist.

It was the arrest last Wednesday of one of Top’s trusted lieutenants
that gave police their first big break in the investigation into the
July 17 Jakarta hotel bombings, which Top is believed to have
planned.

FBI Raids Travel Agency to Investigate Missing Somalis

The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation searched the office of a
Minnesota travel agency this week for clues to the disappearance of 20
Somali-American men believed to be fighting in Somalia’s civil war.

Omar Jamal, spokesman for the Somali Justice Advocacy Center, says the
owner of Amana Travel was approached several months ago by two young men
who wanted to travel to Somalia. Jamal says the owner, Ali Mohamud,
refused to book the tickets when he learned the young men’s parents were
unaware of their plans.

But about 20 Somali-American men from the Minnesota area, including
those two young men, have disappeared in the last two years. They are
believed to be in Somalia fighting with the Islamist militant group
al-Shabab against the Somali government and its allies.

The U.S. considers al-Shabab a terrorist group.
