"33 Minutes" Confronts The Threat of an EMP

(Electro Magnetic Pulse)

By Kelly Cook, National Field Director

I encounter questions regarding the potential threat of an EMP on a consistent basis. Many in our organization are rightfully concerned about this ominous threat. In my opinion, an EMP would be infinitely
more devastating to the nation than a nuclear warhead on a major U.S. city. The overall deaths in every affected major metro area would be devastating, with many estimates in the 90% kill range within a year of the attack. One EMP could affect up to one half of the nation's geographic area.

I'm not saying this to unnecessarily alarm you. I'm saying this to encourage you to systematically approach this threat with reasonable and prudent steps for you and for those you love.

The first step to confronting a problem is to be properly informed. The Heritage Foundation has an excellent website surrounding the film, "33 Minutes," which will effectively educate you, your family and your chapter on this threat.

Click here for the 33 Minute link.

I encourage you to carefully examine this excellent site, watch the 7 minute trailer and seriously consider hosting a screening for the film at a chapter meeting.

If you want to further dialogue with me, I welcome emails with your thoughts and questions. We are committed to your security. You may reach me directly at:

Tip of the Month

Learn About ACT! for America's New Capwiz Program!

By Lisa Piraneo, Director of Government Relations

Last week, we were very excited to announce the unveiling of Capwiz XC, a new tool with which you can interact with, and track your elected officials in the U.S. Congress. You can educate yourself about your congressional candidates with CapWiz.

Capwiz XC is now available on our website, www.actforamerica.org, under the "Contact Congress" tab, to access updated legislative data on-line tools that allow you to have an active role in the political process.

Take a few minutes to experiment with this new program and share it with your ACT! Chapter either via e-mail or as an exercise during a Chapter meeting to familiarize yourself with all the many ways Capwiz can help you be a successful grassroots advocate, including:

  • Research and Contact Elected Officials

  • Find Your Elected Officials Bills and Votes

  • Election Guide Directory (NOTE: The election is right around the corner! Let Capwiz help you get involved, so strong national security candidates are elected in November!)

  • Register to Vote (NOTE: Same as above!

Get involved and make sure others do too!)

  • Media Guide

Capwiz XC will enable ACT! for America to deliver critical messages to lawmakers and to ensure that our legislative agenda is received and heard up on Capitol Hill.

The 111th Congress may be winding down, but ACT! for America's 135,000 members need to be ready to "hit the ground running" when the next Congress kicks off in January of 2011. Check out our new Capwiz XC tool today and get ready to make a difference!

CHAPTER LEADER OF THE MONTH

We recently received a very encouraging email from Susan Watts, one of the nation's most active mentors to chapter leaders. She commends a relatively new chapter leader (he just signed up last November) in Jonesboro, Arkansas.

After reviewing this courageous man's activities, we agree! Congratulations to Robert Norvell! He is actually recovering from a stroke, has gone back to work, leads his Jonesboro chapter and has made it his mission to help others start new chapters as well! Robert plans to "really ramp it up" as his health improves!

Robert recently reported that one of his recruits, new chapter leader Darrell Geurin from tiny Lynn, AR, had 35 in attendance at his first meeting! Robert also says he expects at least 75 or so at his own meetings. If every leader did what Robert does, our growth would be even more explosive than it is! It's only a matter of time before Robert is an official mentor.

Thank you sir, for prioritizing your life to be able to actively confront the realities of the threats arrayed against us.
We salute you, Robert Norvell!
