PHILADELPHIA – The Middle East Forum is pleased to announce the appointment of Gary C. Gambill to the newly-created post of general editor, with special responsibility for launching and editing the on-line edition of the Forum's flagship publication, the Middle East Quarterly.

Mr. Gambill previously served as editor of Middle East Intelligence Bulletin (1999-2004), a joint publication of MEF and the United States Committee for a Free Lebanon, and Mideast Monitor (2006-2009). In addition, he has worked as a country report analyst for Freedom House, an adjunct professor at College of Mount Saint Vincent, and a paid consultant for various public and private sector clients.

Mr. Gambill has published extensively on Lebanese and Syrian politics, terrorism, and authoritarianism in the Middle East. He has an MA in Arab Studies from Georgetown University and completed coursework for a PhD in political science at New York University.

"We are fortunate to have Gary Gambill as our first general editor," said Forum director Efraim Karsh. "He brings to the position a unique blend of editorial acumen, rigorous methodological standards, and a strong working knowledge of the Arab-Islamic world."

"I couldn't invent a position better suited to my interests, strengths, and ideals," said Mr. Gambill, "I look forward to building on the Middle East Quarterly's strengths and turning it into the foremost online resource on the Middle East."

The Middle East Forum, a Philadelphia-based think tank, is dedicated to defining American interests in the Middle East and protecting America from Islamist threats. It achieves its goals through intellectual, activist, and philanthropic efforts.
