Review of Gavin Boby's very successful visit to Canada

REVIEW OF GAVIN BOBY’S VISIT TO CANADA:
OTTAWA, MONTREAL
& TORONTO
Gavin Boby of the Law and
Freedom Foundation/U.K was one of the speakers at the Brussels Conference held in July 2012 at the
European Parliament Buildings. A member of ACT! For Canada was one of the invited
guests and liked his message. It was decided to invite Mr. Boby to Canada
to “speak of his advocacy, asserting that it is based not in hatred for Muslims
but in love for the British tradition of decency, restraint, and public order
that he wishes to preserve for
future generations”.

Those opposing Mr. Boby’s message:
Article appearing in the Ottawa Citizen just before his
arrival: “Mistaking Islamism for Islam”
“Another person in this anti-Islamist struggle is Gavin Boby,
a British lawyer, and his Law and Freedom Foundation. Boby’s organization is
linked to the EDL (note: this is
completely erroneous: it clearly says on his website that he is in no way
connected with the English Defense League) and it goes about encouraging
communities to stop mosque construction by using existing zoning laws in
municipalities across Britain. He will be in Canada for a speaking tour in early
February. Hence, our concern is with those in Canada foolishly or mistakenly
inviting Gavin Boby, or EDL members, to build support for anti-Islamist
activism.”

The reaction to this Article by CAIR-CAN.
THIS IS THE CAIR-CAN PRESS RELEASE:
(February
1, 2013) The Canadian Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR.CAN), a
national Muslim civil liberties organization, is calling on supporters and
concerned Canadians to immediately contact the Ottawa Public Library (OPL) to
urge that it revoke permission for the appearance of an anti-Muslim hatemonger
at its main branch on February 4, 2013.

(6) Argument written
by Robert Sibley of the Ottawa Citizen:
CAIR-CAN, it appears,
would like Canadians to believe it has discovered the virtues of tolerance,
inclusiveness, diversity and, most marvelous of all, freedom of thought and
speech. Nonetheless, the
organization wanted the Ottawa Public Library to cancel a Monday night speech
by British “mosquebuster” Gavin Boby, the founder of group devoted to
“resisting the tide of Islam” in the United Kingdom. Boby uses legal processes
and municipal bylaws to help Britons who don’t want mosques built in their
neighbourhoods. He’s apparently been quite successful.
(6) Review in
FrontPageMagazine of his visit to Canada by Janice Fiamengo
Gavin Boby
did not disappoint. He spoke in lucid and quietly impassioned terms of his
advocacy, asserting that it is based not in hatred for Muslims but in love for
the British tradition of decency, restraint, and public order that he wished to
preserve for future generations. He used reliable studies and poll results to
show why mosques are different in kind from churches, synagogues, or other
places of worship, being not centers of religious contemplation only but
command centers of jihadist recruitment where believers are indoctrinated to
support and commit violence against non-believers.
We
wish to recognize and say a big thank you to Vlad Tepes, Cynthia Yacowar
Sweeney and Blazing Cat Fur for filming the events in Ottawa,
Montreal and Toronto respectively.
As
well, a huge thank-you to Janice Fiamengo for booking the Ottawa
Public Library – and for bearing the brunt of the attacks brought on by
CAIR-CAN – along with the Jewish Defence League who hosted our evening in Toronto.
