Canadian lawmakers honored Parliament sergeant-at-arms Kevin Vickers with a lengthy standing ovation Thursday morning, one day after a gunman killed a soldier at Ottawa’s war memorial and then tore through the Parliament building.Law enforcement officials have not officially confirmed that it was Vickers, 58, who took down shooting suspect Michael Zehaf-Bibeau, but multiple government officials took to Twitter to say in no uncertain terms that members of Parliament owe their lives to the 29-year Royal Canadian Mounted Police veteran.
The white-haired Vickers, emotion on his face, stood and acknowledged the ovation inside the House of Commons, which lasted well over two minutes.
