In a video posted to YouTube on Saturday, the extremist Muslim cleric Anjem Choudary informs the United West's Tom Trento that anyone who insults Islam or the prophet Mohammed must suffer capital punishment. Even the Pope could be sentenced to death for insulting Islam, he added.

The short interview starts with Trento asking Choudary if the two could really be friends. Choudary explained that while they could have a cordial, friendly relationship, they could not be friends unless Trento converted to Islam.

"You know, Tom, me and you cannot be friends," he said. "You know, we can have a decent relationship," but, he added, "I can only take as friends those who believe in Allah and who accept his prophets."

But, he told Trento, he could not turn from the teachings of Islam, which, he added, tells him that those who insult Islam or [Prophet] Mohammed must be killed. Choudary went on to say the teaching doesn't mean Muslims can take the law into their own hands, however.

He went on to say that Pope Benedict deserved to die for comments he believed are an insult to Islam. But, he added, "that needs to be assessed by a judge in the Sharia, or Islamic state (IS, ISIS)." If the Pope were to embrace Islam, he added, all would be forgiven. In 2006, Benedict made a statement that angered many Muslims and prompted an apology from the Vatican.

“The emperor, after having expressed himself so forcefully, goes on to explain in detail the reasons why spreading the faith through violence is something unreasonable. Violence is incompatible with the nature of God and the nature of the soul,” he said.

“God…is not pleased by blood - and not acting reasonably is contrary to God’s nature. Faith is born of the soul, not the body. Whoever would lead someone to faith needs the ability to speak well and to reason properly, without violence and threats... To convince a reasonable soul, one does not need a strong arm, or weapons of any kind, or any other means of threatening a person with death,” he added, quoting the long-dead Christian Emperor Paleologus. At the time, CNN reported that "thousands of Palestinians marched in Gaza, demanding an apology."

Choudary continued, telling Trento that "Islam is the future," inviting him to become a Muslim. "You save yourself and your children from hellfire," he added.

It's not the first time Choudary has made such an baseless and divisive speeches. Trento played video of Choudary publicly declaring that those who insult Islam deserve capital punishment.

Since the terrorist attacks in France in which Muslim extremists murdered staffers and cartoonists of the satirical publication Charlie Hebdo, Choudary has appeared on several media outlets justifying the murders. While speaking with Truth Revolt editor Ben Shapiro, he warned of a "blood bath" if Western countries do not stifle free speech in order to appease Muslim sensibilities.

Recently, Choudary engaged in a fiery discussion with Fox News' Sean Hannity, who minced no words. "I still think you're an evil SOB," Hannity said. Video of Choudary's comments can be seen above.
