Trudeau’s troubling worldview on full display in ISIS announcement: He doesn’t know who the enemy is

Listening to Justin Trudeau speak to Canadians about the way we should view and discuss ISIS makes me wonder whether he knows that he won the election last October.

"There are those who think we should engage in heated, over the top rhetoric when speaking about ISIL and terrorist groups like them," Trudeau told the reporters gathered at the National Press Theatre on Monday morning.
Speaking in his best, ‘I’m reading you a bedtime story’ cadence, Trudeau said that Canada is stronger than ISIS.
"We see things in a different way," Trudeau said.
"ISIL would like us to see them as a credible threat to our way of life and to our civilization. We know Canada is stronger, much stronger than the threat posed by a murderous gang of thugs, who are terrorizing some of the most vulnerable people on Earth."
Well, how is that for heated rhetoric? Isn't that what Prime Minister Trudeau just warned us against?
Of course when he is speaking of those that want to engage in "heated, over the top rhetoric", Trudeau is of course speaking of the now defunct Conservative government that he and his Liberals defeated last October. Even four months into power and at a time of announcing his latest policy, one he has telegraphed for months, Trudeau can't help but take jabs at the Conservatives.
Then he turns to lecturing Canadians on how they must treat ISIS.
"Call us old-fashioned, but we think that we ought to avoid doing precisely what our enemies want us to do," Trudeau said. "They want us to elevate them, to give in to fear, to indulge in hatred, to eye one another with suspicion and to take leave of our faculties."
Get that? Don't give in to ISIL's demands that we eye each other strangely, with suspicion. Trudeau is of course warning against hate crimes without acknowledging that the vast majority of Canadians actually support continuing the bombing mission he just ended, a bombing mission to predominantly help Muslims escape the clutches of ISIS.
It is a progressive tic to constantly warn about hate crimes against Muslims even as year after year Jews are most frequently the victims of religious hate crimes and Catholic churches are the most common target of hate crimes against properties.
But Trudeau wasn't done, he had this to say about fighting back against ISIS.
"The lethal enemy of barbarism isn’t hatred. It’s reason. And the people terrorized by ISIL every day don’t need our vengeance, they need our help," Trudeau said.
Actually I'm pretty sure if you asked the people targeted by ISIS, they would say they want us to help them get vengeance.
I would have preferred that Canada's CF-18s continued to join our coalition allies in the bombing campaign against ISIS. Those bombing missions have been effective in disrupting supply lines, trade routes and in helping Kurdish forces take back territory.
But beyond that and beyond the announcement that Canada will triple our training mission (we shall see how that goes) I worry about Trudeau's worldview.
The comments he made about ISIS - how we should speak of them and what they are - leave me questioning whether he truly knows the enemy he is committing our soldiers to fight.
