The Truth Behind the Captive Dolphin Industry

Dear Friends,  
The 2015-2016 Taiji dolphin drive has ended. This year, the government in Wakayama Prefecture, Japan authorized the Taiji dolphin killers to capture or slaughter 1,873 dolphins.

In some of the lowest numbers seen in recent years, between 630 to 650 dolphins were slaughtered and 117 dolphins were imprisoned, destined to spend the rest of their lives in small tanks, cement pools, or small sea pens.

Sea Shepherd's team of Cove Guardians were on the ground every day for the Operation Henkaku. Livestreaming the capture, selection, and slaughter, Cove Guardians were again able to bring international attention to this barbaric practice.

This dolphin drive is not tradition. It is a profit driven enterprise supported by the Japanese government and driven by the sale of captive dolphins.

Our livestream footage was able to dismiss any and all claims of “humane slaughter.” The dolphin killers used tarps to try to hide the slaughter from our cameras.
