Iran: Detailed Report of Women's Ward at Evin Prison

BCR Group: International Human Rights Day was again celebrated while at least 32 women prisoners of conscience, political, religious and the prisoners related to national security charges, are kept in Women's Ward at Tehran notorious Evin prison, including 17 mothers, 13 of them are more than 50 year old.  Further, 14 of them suffer from chronic diseases, 2 of them are foreigners and hold dual-citizenship. The prisoners totally sentenced to 4,275 days (more than 11 years) imprisonment.

The 32 women prisoners are served daily ration which has been provided for 25 persons (although the norm of the other prisons in Iran, mostly for the prisoners with serious crimes, is that prisoners can be received food according to how long prison term they have passed). There is a prison store that sell some goods, but more expensive than market. Most of them have been deprived of furlough and conditional release.

They have right to call with their relatives (once per week up to 10 minutes), and the new arrivals should be patient for the right up to a few weeks. 

The women prisoners suffer from insufficient medical services, and the prisoners are held without electricity or running water for over two hours, according to HRANA detailed report.
The following list that conducted by HRANA unveils details of the prisoners in Women's Ward at Evin prison;
1.Atena (Fatemeh) Daemi, 29 years old, single.
Sentence: 7 years in prison
Description: Atena Daemi was first arrested on October 21, 2014 and taken to Evin Prison where she was detained in the IRGC-controlled solitary confinement ward for a total of 86 days. She was then transferred to the women's ward of this prison and detained there until she was temporarily released on February 15, 2016 on a bail amounting to approximately $180,000 USD. According to a report by Amnesty International, for the first 28 days of her detention, Atena was held in a cell that was "infested with insects and had no toilet facilities". During this time, she was reportedly interrogated while blindfolded every day for a period of about a month and a half, and she had no access to a lawyer. Atena's mental and physical health severely deteriorated during this time, but Iranian authorities denied her medical care for her growing health complications.

In spring 2015, Iranian authorities sentenced the peaceful human rights defender to 14 years in prison under four charges: "Propaganda against the regime", “Assembly and collusion against national security", "Blasphemy and insulting the Supreme Leader", and "Concealing evidence". In September 2016, her sentence was reduced to seven years in prison by an Iranian appeals court. Finally, she Daemi was violently arrested at her home this morning by IRGC agents who reportedly threatened her with death and did not present an arrest warrant.

2.Maryam (Nasim) Naghash Zargaran, 38 years old, single.
Sentence: 4 years in prison
Description: Intelligence Service officials summoned Maryam in 2013 and taken her to Evin prison. She had reportedly endured severe tortures both physically and mentally during the investigating term in the Islamic regime's chambers of Iran. Officials kept her in an isolation place where had not necessary sanitary facilities.
Iran's authorities accused her on the ambiguous charges of "propaganda against the regime of Iran" at Branch 2 of the Shahid Moghadas Court in Evin, but the officials released her on the bail of 23000 $ (70 million Rials) after 19 days of temporary detention. She was finally sentenced to four years in prison for ambiguous charges as- acting against national security through assembly and collusion at Branch 28 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court in Tehran, chaired by the infamous Judge Mohammad Moghiseh.

After all complications and being denied medical attention or temporary release, she was released on bail for 33,000$ in June 6, 2016. Finally, on June 6th, 2016, Maryam was returned again to Evin on June 27th, 2016, to serve her remaining sentence. The Imprisoned Christian convert citizen, who is being kept at Women Ward in the notorious Evin prison, is in grave danger of her life. She suffers from atrial septal defect (ASD), diabetes, blood fat, severe pain in her ears and chronic dizziness. Maryam also contracted lumbar disc, arthritis, and anemia because of poor nutrition and inappropriate conditions in the prison.

3.Zahra Sharifi (Agha Abdol-Husseini Tehrani), 44 years old.
Charges: Blasphemy
Sentence: Undecided situation
Description: She was arrested in 2016 and was taken to Women's Ward after spending 45 days in solitary confinement at Ward 209 of Evin.


4.Afarin Chitsaz, 42 years old.
Charges: Assembly and collusion against the regime of Iran
Sentence: 2 years
Description: She was arrested in 2016 and was taken to Women's Ward after enduring 45 days in solitary confinement cells.


5.Leyla Sabzali Jama'at, 35 years old, mother.
Charges: Blasphemy
Sentence: 1 year in prison and fine amounting to $750 USD.
Description: She was arrested on October 8, 2013 and was released on bail after eight days. Branch 26 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court issued prison term and fine a year later, chaired by Judge Ahmadzadeh. She was finally went to Evin prison in 2016 to serve her prison term. Leyla was deprived of forlouf and conditional release.


6.Behnaz Zakeri Ansari, 55 years old, mother.
Charges: Moharebeh (enmity against God) through fellowship with MEK Party.
Sentence: 10 years in prison
Description: She was arrested in 2012 and being held in solitary confinement for six months. The Danish-Iranian citizen was sentenced to imprisoned at Branch 28 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court, chaired by Judge Moghiseh. She suffers from Neurological disease.


7.Morvarid Fartoomi, 35 years old, married.
Charges: Unknown
Sentence: Undecided situation
Description: She was arrested on November 21, 2016 and transferred to solitary confinement. Officials finally transferred her to solitary confinement after six days.


8.Nooshindokht Mirbagheri, 64 years old, single
Charges: Acting against national security, assembly and collusion against the regime of Iran, blasphemy, propaganda against the regime and spreading false news.
Sentence: 34 years and nine months in prison
Description: She was arrested by Intelligence Service agents on February 16, 2015 and transferred to Women's Ward after one month. She was released on bail amounting to $50,000 USD till court decision to be met. Judge Ahmadzadeh recalled her to prison for continuing her activism. She suffers from Schizophrenia.
9.Narges Mohemmadi, 45 years old, Mother
Charges: Assembly and collusion against the regime of Iran, propaganda against the regime, illegal establishment of LEGAM org.
Sentence: Totally 22 years in prison
Description: She was arrested by security forces in 2010 and being held in solitary confinement. The court showed its mercy to release her on bail amounting to $25,000 USD. Iranian court sentenced her to 11 years in prison that appellate court reduced the sentence to six years imprisonment. Finally, she was re-arrest in 2014 for another charges whereupon the court again sentenced her to 16 years in prison which made the total penalty 16 years in prison.

10.Reyhane Hajebrahimdabagh, 35 years old
Charges: Moharebeh (enmity against God) through fellowship of MEK Party, assembly and collusion against the regime of Iran, and propaganda against the regime.
Sentence: 15 years in prison and life in exile
Description: She was jailed since 2009. Branch 15 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court sentenced her to prison term and life in exile, chaired by Judge Salavati. Her husband and her father-in-law also were sentenced to death penalty. She was previously exiled to Gharchak and Rajai Shahr prison for a while.

11.Maryam Akbarimonfared, 41 years old, Mother
Charges: Moharebeh (enmity against God) through fellowship with MEK Party.
Sentence: 15 years in prison
Description: She was arrested on December 31 2009 and jailed in solitary confinement for two months, then she transferred to public ward (known as Metadon Ward) where the addicts are jaied. She was finally taken to Women Ward of Evin early 2010. Maryam was transferred to Rajai Shahr prison in 2010 and afterwards exiled to Gharchak prison 2011. She was returned to Evin prison again in April of 2011. The women prisoner has three children and his brother Reza Akbarimonfared also is jailed in Rajai Shahr prison, Karaj. She suffers from thyroid and rheumatoid arthritis.


12.Fatemeh Mosan, 47 years old, MotherCharges: Moharebeh (enmity against God) through fellowship with MEK Party.Sentence: 15 years in prison
Sentence: 15 years in prison
Description: She was arrested by Intelligence Service officials on January 28, 2016 and jailed in solitary confinement for 75 days. Fatemeh was released on bail of $50,000 from Women Ward of Evin in January 13, 2014. Finally, Branch 26 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court sentenced her to 15 years in prison, chaired by Judge Ahmadzadeh. Iran security forces arrested her in September 30, 2015 and transferred her to Women Ward of Evin prison to serve her prison term. She was previously detained along with her family for two years when she had 13-year-old.

13.Zahra Zehtabchi, 47 years old, MotherCharges: Moharebeh (enmity against God) through fellowship with MEK Party.Sentence: 10 years in prison
Description: She was arrested by security forces along with her husband and her daughter on October 16, 2013 and transferred to Women Ward of Evin after enduring 14 months in the solitary confinement. Branch 15 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court sentenced her to 12 years in prison on December 8, 2014. Her sentence was reduced to ten year prison term in 2015. She is deprived of release and furlough.


14.Mahvash Sharyari, 64 years old, Mother
Charges: Membership of Baha'I group known as “Hey'at Yaran of Iran”
Sentence: 10 years in prison
Description: She was arrested in Mashhad on March 5, 2008 and transferred to Evin after being kept in the solitary confinement for 13 months. She was kept again in solitary confinement for 27 months after transition. Branch 28 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court sentenced her to 20 years in prison in 2010, chaired by Judge Moghiseh. She was exiled to Rajai Shahr prison after the trial. Her sentence was finally reduced to ten years in prison.

15.Fariba KamalAbadi, 55 years old, Mother
Charges: Membership of Baha'I group known as “Hey'at Yaran of Iran”
Sentence: Ten years in prison
Description: She was detained in Tehran on May 14, 2008 and endured 27 months in solitary confinement. Branch 28 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court sentenced her to 20 years in prison, chaired by Judge Moghiseh. The verdict was reduced to ten years in prison in 2015.


16.Elham Barmaki, 47 years old, Mother
Charges: Espionage
Sentence: Ten years in prison
Description: The Cypriots-Iranian citizen was arrested in the street on December 28, 2011 and endured three months in solitary confinement. Afterwards, she was released on bail. Branch 28 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court sentenced her to ten years in prison and fine amounting to $75,000. She was re-arrested on July 23, 2012 and endured 14 months in solitary confinement. Finally, she was transferred to Women Ward on September 29, 2013.

17.Roya Saberinejad Nobakht, 52 years old
Charges: Blasphemy and insulting to Iran authorities
Sentence: Four years in prison
Description: she was arrested in Shiraz on September 28, 2013 and endured two months in the solitary confinement at ward 2-A Sepah (IRGC). Afterwards, she had endured 18 months exile in the solitary confinement at Gharchak prison. Finally, she was transferred to Women Ward.


18.Nazila Hamidova, 54 years old, Mother
Charges: Unknown
Sentence: Unknown
Description: She was arrested in Tabriz city in 2015 and was transferred to Evin prison after spending 10 months in the solitary confinement. Finally, she was taken into Women Ward after being held in Ward-209 of Evin prison for two months. The Azerbaijani citizen is deprived of conditional release and visit her relatives.

19.Negar karimova, 39 years old, mother
Charges: Espionage
Sentence: Undecided situation
Description: She was arrested in Mashhad city in 2013 and transferred to Ward-209 of Evin prison after the arrest. She was finally taken into Women Ward at Evin after 15 months.

20.Zahra (Nadereh) Rastgou, 55 years old
Charges: Blasphemy through spreading Iranian mysticism called Erfan Keyhani (Halgheh)
Sentence: Two years in prison
Description: She was arrested in Eslamshahr city, Tehran province in 2013 and transferred to Ward 2-A of Evin prison after five days. She was released on bail till court decision to be met. Branch 26 of the Islamic Revolutionary court sentenced her to two years in prison and she was sent to Women Ward at Evin to serve her two-year prison term on September 7, 2016.

21.Elham Farahani, 55 years old, Mother
Charges: Propaganda against the regime of Iran through membership of Baha'I community
Sentence: Four years in prison
Description: She was arrested along with her husband Adel Naimi on July 11, 2012. Her son also was arrested less than ten days of her arrest. She was released on bail of $25,000 along with her son after spending two months in solitary confinement. Their so-called trial lasted only five minutes and Branch 28 of Tehran Islamic Revolutionary Court sentenced her to four years in prison, chaired by Judge Moghiseh.


22.Mihan(Samira) Izadi, 22 years old, Single
Charges: unknown
Sentence: Undecided situation
Description: She was captured at the Iran-Kurdistan border once she arrived Iran on July 5, 2016. She was transferred to Women Ward of Evin after spending 45 days in the solitary confinements.

23.Marjan Davari, 50 years old
Charges: Unknown
Sentence: Undecided situation
Description: She, translator and researcher, was arrested in security forces raid at her father house in Mehrshahr, Karaj on September 24, 2015. Agents transferred her to Ward-209 of Evin after being held in Rajai Shahr prison for a week. Finally, she was transferred to Women Ward after spending three months in solitary confinement.

24.Maryam Alangi, 54 years old
Charges: fellowship of MEK Party
Sentence: Two years in prison
Description: She was arrested on October 11, 2009 and was released on bail of $50,000 on December 16, 2009. Branch 15 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court sentence her to two years in prison. Agents re-arrested her without court warrant on July 26, 2016 and transferred her Evin to serve her prison term. Her husband Mohsen Dogmehchi died in prison duo to lack of medical treatment. 

25.Ameneh Jaberi, 54 years old, Mother
Charges: Blasphemy through spreading Iranian mysticism called Erfan Keyhani (Halgheh)
Sentence: Two years in prison and fine amounting to $8,750
Description: She was arrested in Damavand city, Alborz province on January 7, 2014 and transferred to ward 2-A at Evin prison. She was released on bail amounting to $32,500 after spending eight days in the solitary confinement. Branch 15 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court sentenced her to two years in prison, chaired by Judge Ahmadzadeh. She was re-arrested on June 29, 2016 and transferred to Women Ward to serve her prison term.

26.Azita Rafizadeh, 35 years old, Mother
Charges: Acting against national security through her activism in Baha'I Online University
Sentence: Four years in prison
Description: Security forces raided at her house on May 22, 2011and seized her personal belongings. Iran Judiciary office summoned her in February of 2012 and released on bail amounting to $12,500. Branch 28 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court sentenced her to four years in prison, chaired by Judge Moghiseh. She went to Evin prison to serve her prison term on October 25, 2015.

27.Nasim Bagheri, 35 years old, Single
Charges: Acting against national security through her activism in Baha'I Online University
Sentence: Four years in prison

28.Golrokh Ebrahimi Iraee, 36 years old, married
Charges: Blasphemy, assembly and collusion against the regime of Iran

29.Sotoudeh Fazel, 65 years old, mother
Charges: Moharebeh (enmity against God) through fellowship of MEK Party
Sentence: Three years in prison
Description: She was arrested by security forces in 2010 and released on bail after spending three months in detention. Branch 15 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court sentenced her to three years in prison, Chaired by Judge Salavati. Finally, She was re-arrested on June 29, 2016 and transferred to Women Ward at Evin prison to serve her prison term.

30.Fahimeh Arafi, 54 years old
Charges: Blasphemy through spreading Iranian mysticism called Erfan Keyhani (Halgheh)
Sentence: Twenty months in prison
Description: She was arrested by security forces on October 30, 2013 and kept in the solitary confinement of Ward 2-A for 13 days, then, she was released on bail after enduring 16 days in Gharchak prison. Judge Ahmadzadeh sentenced her to five years in prison at Branch 26 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court and she was taken into Women Ward of Evin on August 25, 2015.

31.Leila Jafari, 36 years old, Mother
Charges: Blasphemy through spreading Iranian mysticism called Erfan Keyhani (Halgheh)
Sentence: Two years in prison
Description: She was arrested on December 15, 2013 and released on bail amounting to $25,000 after spending eleven days in isolation at Ward 2-A of Evin prison. Branch 26 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court sentenced her to two years in prison, chaired by Judge Ahmadzadeh. She went to Evin on June 7, 2016 to serve her prison term.

32.Reyhaneh Tabatabaei, 38 years old, Single
Charges: Propaganda against the regime of Iran
Sentence: One year in prison
Description: The reformist journalist went to Evin prison in 2015 to serve her prison term.
