The Danger of EMP, Electro Magnetic Pulse Attack

Posted: 20 Jul 2009 12:18 AM PDT

emp

EMP is shorthand for Electro Magnetic Pulse. It is a rather
unusual and frightening by – product when a nuclear bomb is detonated
above the earth’s atmosphere. We all know that our atmosphere and the
magnetic field which surrounds our planet is a thin layer which not only
keeps us alive, but also protects us from dangerous radiation from the
sun. On a fairly regular basis there are huge solar storms on the sun’s
surface which emit powerful jets of deadly radiation. If not for the
protective layer of our atmosphere and magnetic field, those storms would
fry us. At times though, the storm is so power that enough disruptive
energy reaches the earth’s surface that it drowns out radio waves and even
shorts electrical power grids…this happened seve ral years back in
Canada.

View the detonation of a nuclear bomb, two hundred miles
straight up as the same thing, but infinitely more powerful since it is so
close by.

As the bomb explodes it emits a powerful wave of gamma rays. As
this energy release hits the upper atmosphere it creates a electrical
disturbance know as the Compton Effect. The intensity is magnified. View
it as a small pebble rolling down a slope, hitting a larger one, setting
that in motion, until finally you have an avalanche.

At the speed of light this disturbance races to the earth
surface. It is not something you can see or hear, in the same way you
don’t feel the electrical disturbance in the atmosphere during20a large
solar storm.

For all electrical systems though, it is deadly.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THIS “PULSE” HITS THE SURFACE?

Those who might remember ham radio operators, or even the old
CB radios of the 1970s can recall that if you ran out a wire as an antenna
you could send and receive a better signal. The wire not only transmitted
the very faint power of a few watts of electricity from your radio, it
could receive even fainted signals in return. As the Pulse strikes the
earths surface, with a power that could range up to hundreds of amps per
square yard, it will not affect you directly, at most you’ll feel a slight
tingling, the s ame as when lightning is about to strike close by, and
nearly all the energy will just be absorbed into the ground and dissipate.
The bad news, however, is wherever it strikes wires, metal surfaces,
antennas, power lines it will now travel along those metal surfaces (in
the same way a lightning bolt will always follow the metal of a lightning
rod, or the power line into your house.) The longer the wire, the more
energy is absorbed, a high tension wire miles long will absorb tens of
thousands of amps, and here is where the destruction begins as it slams
into any delicate electronic circuits, meaning computer chips, relays,
etc. In that instant, they are overloaded by the massive energy surge,
short circuit, and fry. Your house via electric, phone and cable wires is
connected, like all the rest of us into the power and communications
grids. This energy surge will destroy all delicate electronics in your
home, even as it destroys all the major components all the way back to the
power company’s generators and the phone company’s main relays. In far
less than a milli second the entire power grid of the United States, and
all that it supports will be destroyed.

The Colony On Discovery Channel Premieres Tuesday

The Colony on Discovery

Discovery Channel has announced The Colony, a new reality
series that will isolate a group of participants for two months and
require them to create a sustainable society inside an abandoned
warehouse, will premiere Tuesday, July 21 at 10PM ET/PT.

The Colony which the network is billing as “a groundbreaking
experiment” that will attempt to determine what would happen after a
“global catastrophe” will begin with 10 people moving into a 50,000
square-foot abandoned warehouse on a three-and-a-half acre plot near the
Los Angeles River in downtown Los Angeles.

Once there, The Colony’s participants will spend the next two
months attempting to create a livable society inside the warehouse using
only their personal skills and whatever tools and supplies they can
recover from their surroundings. The warehouse is without modern amenities
such as electricity, running water and communication with the outside
world.

According to the network, the space was designed by homeland
security, engineering and psychology experts who used elements from both
real-life disasters and models of what the future could look like after a
global catastrophe.

Throughout the series, the experts who designed the space will
offer insight to viewers on challenges the participants could face in the
context of real-world disasters as they work together to build the
necessities of survival and society — such as a water filtration system, a
battery bank for electricity, a solar cooker, a shower system and a
greenhouse.

In addition, different tools and sparse food items will be
“strategically placed” in the space to represent what might be viably
available in an urban post-disaster landscape based on actual event data
recorded during past real-life catastrophes.

As part of the experiment, the participants will also be
challenged by “a hostile gang of looters and thugs” who threaten their
security and force them to devise a safety plan to protect themselves.

Town Plans To Photograph Car And License Plate of Visitors

Posted: 19 Jul 2009 09:22 PM PDT

photoradar

Visitors should be prepared to have their pictures taken as
they enter and leave this picturesque town of million-dollar views and
homes along the San Francisco Bay.

Officials want to photograph every car and use the license
plate information to solve crimes in the town of 9,000. Critics see the
plan as an intrusion into the rights of visitors, but proponents say it is
a sensible precaution that absolutely will not cross privacy lines.

“As long as you don’t arrive in a stolen vehicle or go on a
crime spree while you’re here, your anonymity will be preserved,” said
Town Manager Peggy Curran. “We don’t care who you are and we don’t know
who you are.”

Cameras are already watching Americans as they drive, bank and
shop, and police around the country routinely use cameras to enforce
speeding and traffic violations and spot stolen cars.

But Tiburon’s plan may be a little different if only because
its geography – laid out on a narrow peninsula with only two roads in and
out – makes it possible to keep a close eye on everyone who comes to
town.

Homeland Security Review – Participate In The QHSR National
Dialogue

Posted: 19 Jul 2009 05:35 PM PDT

Homeland Security Review QHSR

Homeland Security Review QHSR

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano invites you to
participate in the National Dialogue on the Quadrennial Homeland Security
Review (QHSR). This groundbreaking, web-based interactive dialogue is
designed to allow a broader range of opinions and ideas to inform the QHSR
process, and to strengthen the Department’s relationship with its vast
array of partners and stakeholders, including other federal agencies,
state, local, and tribal governments, law enforcement professionals, first
responders, academic institutions, and the business community.

In order to capture this critical feedback, the Secretary is
seeking your participation in three week-long, web-based dialogues. Each
dialogue will build on the previous one, allowing participants to view and
comment directly on proposed elements of the review before they are made
final. Your invaluable participation will directly inform the work of the
DHS study groups conducting the QHSR—and ultimately, our Homeland Security
policies and priorities over the next four years. The final report is due
to Congress on December 31, 2009.

What is the Quadrennial Homeland Security
Review?

The Quadrennial Homeland Security Review (QHSR) is a
congressionally mandated, top-to-bottom review of the Department’s
policies and priorities that will guide the Department and the nation for
the next four years. The review is conducted by the Secretary of Homeland
Security with key assistance from a set of study groups within DHS, each
charged with reviewing a different aspect of the Department’s mission and
operations. For more information, see http://www.dhs.gov/qhsr.

What is the National Dialogue on the Quadrennial
Homeland Security Review?

The National Dialogue is a conversation between you, other
Homeland Security stakeholders, and DHS on an innovative web-based
platform. The National Dialogue is an iterative process, building on your
input over the course of three dialogues. Each of the three dialogues will
involve discussions on six topics being reviewed by DHS:

  • Counterterrorism and Domestic Security Management
  • Securing Our Borders
  • Smart and Tough Enforcement of Immigration Laws
  • Preparing for, Responding to, and Recovering from Disasters
  • Homeland Security National Risk Assessment
  • Homeland Security Planning and Capabilities

This unique experiment in 21st-century stakeholder
consultation is being hosted by the National Academy of Public
Administration, an independent, non-profit, congressionally-chartered
institution, on behalf of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

DHS Certifies Handheld Biodetection Kits For Counter-Terrorism

Posted: 19 Jul 2009 05:13 PM PDT

handheld_bio_detection

Universal Detection Technology, a developer of early-warning
monitoring technologies to protect people from bioterrorism and other
infectious health threats and provider of counter-terrorism consulting and
training services, reported today that its handheld biodetection kits have
been certified by the Department of Homeland Security as an “Approved
Product for Homeland Security” under the Support Anti-terrorism by
Fostering Effective Technologies (SAFETY) Act of 2002.

The SAFETY Act provides incentives for the development and
deployment of anti-terrorism technologies by creating a system of “risk
management” and a system of “litigation management.” The purpose of the
act is to ensure that the threat of liability does not deter potential
manufacturers or sellers of anti-terrorism technologies from developing
and commercializing technologies that could save lives.

The handheld detection kits have been extensively used by first
responders and private industry throughout the country. The equipment has
been evaluated by the U.S. DOD, as well as by the United Kingdom military.
The equipment’s capacities feature the following:

  • No cross-reactivity with near neighbor strains
  • No cross-reactivity to household powders
  • No set up time
  • No expensive reader needed
  • No decontamination requirements
  • No false positives
  • No false negatives
  • No hook effect

“The size and ease of use of these kits makes them ideal for
emergency situations where time is of the essence,” says Jacques Tizabi,
UNDT’s Chief Executive Officer. “UNDT’s kits are some of the most user
friendly and accurate products currently on the market.”

Senior Adviser Warns of Armageddon in Islamabad

Posted: 19 Jul 2009 05:00 PM PDT

PAKISTAN MISSILE

A senior adviser on South Asia to three U.S. presidents is now
warning about “Armageddon in Islamabad.”

At the request of President Obama, Bruce Riedel, a former CIA
expert on the region, also chaired an interagency policy review on
Afghanistan and nuclear Pakistan. His latest assessment says, “A jihadist
victory in Pakistan, meaning the takeover of the nation by a militant
Sunni movement led by the Taliban … would create the greatest threat the
United States has yet to face in its war on terror … [and] is now a real
possibility in the foreseeable future.” It would bolster al Qaeda’s
capabilities tenfold, Mr. Riedel concludes. It would also give terrorists
a nuclear capability.

Pakistan’s “creation of and collusion with extremist groups has
left Islamabad vulnerable to an Islamist coup,” concludes Mr. Riedel, a
senior fellow at the Brookings Institution’s Saban Center for Middle East
Policy in a lengthy study in the July/August issue of the National
Interest. An Islamist coup would not be possible without the collusion of
at least some army units in Rawalpindi, the garrison town 20 minutes from
Islamabad. Pakistan has suffered four military coups in 60 years, living
half its existence under military rule.

Beginning with the war against the Soviet occupation of
Afghanistan in the 1980s, the Islamization of Pakistan was organized by
the late military dictator Zia ul-Haq, and encouraged and funded by Saudi
Arabia and the United States as a counter to communist ideology. This
spawned thousands of single discipline madrassas (free Koranic schools)
that, in turn, spawned thousands of jihadis brainwashed to hate American,
Indian and Israeli apostates. It also led to the creation of such
nationwide terrorist groups as Lashkar-e-Taiba (LET) and Jaish-e-Muhammad
(JEM) under the supervision of ISI for the Kashmir front against India.
Officially banned, they moved underground.

Pakistan’s all-powerful Inter-Services Intelligence agency
(ISI) also “volunteered” some 10,000 young jihadis from the Mohmand tribal
agency to fight U.S. troops in Afghanistan, but the Taliban had already
collapsed and the untrained youngsters were quietly shipped back to
Pakistan with denials on all sides.

After U.S. troops invaded Afghanistan on Oct. 7, 2000, ISI
spread the word among tribal chiefs in the Federally Administered Tribal
Areas (FATA) that “Pakistan is next.” A two-star ISI general “briefed”
tribal chiefs after the battle of Tora Bora in December 2001 on U.S. plans
“following the conquest of Afghanistan.” This reporter was briefed by one
of the chiefs the next day. The Bush administration, the general had
explained, plans to attack Pakistan in an attempt to seize its nuclear
arsenal and “leave it naked to Indian aggression.”

The War Against Narco-Terrorism – Oliver North

Posted: 19 Jul 2009 04:52 PM PDT

narco_terror

He called himself “César” but his real name is Gerardo Aguilar
Ramirez. As “commandanté of the 1st Front of the Revolutionary Armed
Forces of Colombia,” and one of the top 10 leaders of the hyper-violent
FARC, he has well-earned credentials as a drug-dealing terrorist with a
penchant for trading in hostages.

On Thursday, U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration agents put
Ramirez, aka César, in shackles, marched him aboard an aircraft here in
Bogota and took him to the U.S. to stand trial for his crimes. Our FOX
News “War Stories” team was here to record the event and a whole lot more
so that we can tell the story about the heroes who are waging and winning
the shadowy fight against narco-terror.

It may not be a familiar term to most of us, but narco-terror
is nothing new to the 5,300 special agents of the U.S. DEA or the allies
they have made in 63 nations around the world. Here in Colombia, source of
half the world’s cocaine, FARC thugs like César have made themselves “high
value targets” in the twilight struggle against illegal narcotics and
terrorism. When he was arrested on July 2, 2008 during a dramatic hostage
rescue operation, César was holding 15 hostages; among them, Colombian
presidential candidate Ingrid Betancourt and three American citizens.
