UANI Applauds Doosan and Bobcat for Ending Their Business in Iran

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE June 7, 2011 Contact: Nathan Carleton, press@uani.com Phone: (212) 554-3296 UANI Applauds Doosan and Bobcat for Ending Their Business in Iran New York, NY - United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) on Tuesday applauded the Doosan Corporation of South Korea and its American subsidiary Bobcat for ending their business in Iran. Last month, UANI called on Doosan and Bobcat to immediately end their dealings in Iran, particularly those in Iran's energy sector. In a May 27, 2011 response letter to UANI, Doosan executives stated that Doosan has "adopted a policy of not accepting any new orders or assignments from Iran and prohibiting all new business transactions in Iran." UANI applauds Doosan for this decision, and expects that any of its existing or past contracts in Iran will be quickly brought to a close. UANI also expects Doosan to ensure it does not earn any new profits from such contracts. Doosan also assured UANI that the North Dakota-based Bobcat Company, its subsidiary, has "ceased doing all business in Iran" and will "not sell any products to third parties if the ultimate destination is known to be Iran." Responding to Doosan's pledges, UANI President, Ambassador Mark D. Wallace, said: We applaud Doosan and Bobcat for pulling out of Iran. This was a responsible decision to make, and we trust that neither Doosan nor Bobcat will earn future revenues from any past sales or business in Iran. We thank Doosan for sharing our concerns about the abusive and dangerous regime that controls Iran and Iran's efforts to acquire nuclear weapons. We hope that other companies will follow Doosan's example and end their business in Iran. All responsible corporations owe it to their employees, customers, and shareholders to end their business in Iran. This week, Acting Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence David Cohen is traveling to South Korea to push for tougher implementation of international sanctions against Iran.
