MICHAEL ZEHAF-BIBEAU
RCMP Commissioner Bob Paulson said in a statement released Sunday night that the video is being viewed for possible "evidence and intelligence."
"The RCMP has identified persuasive evidence that Michael Zehaf-Bibeau's attack was driven by ideological and political motives," Paulson said. "Zehaf-Bibeau had prepared a video recording of himself just prior to conducting this attack."
Zehaf-Bibeau, 32, shot and killed Cpl. Nathan Cirillo, 24, of Hamilton, Ontario Wednesday as the Argyll and Sutherland Highlander reservist stood sentry at the memorial.
Zehaf-Bibeau then made his way into the Centre Block of Parliament Hill where he was killed in a gunfight, the fatal shot being fired by Sergeant-At-Arms Kevin Vickers, now being hailed a national hero.
Paulson said the RCMP investigation is advancing and "has revealed a great deal about Zehaf-Bibeau's movements and actions prior to the attack."
He added that a knife the homegrown terrorist was carrying came from the home of the terrorist's aunt in Mount Tremblant, Quebec.
"Zehaf-Bibeau had lived there years earlier and appeared to have stored the knife on the property," Paulson said in the statement. "We are still looking into the origin of the gun used by Zehaf-Bibeau. It is an old and uncommon gun.
"We suspect that he could have similarly hidden the gun on the property but our inquiries continue."
Paulson said Zehaf-Bibeau financed his "pre-attack activities" with money saved while working on Alberta's oil fields and "had access to a considerable amount of funds."
The force is checking out where he spent his money and his "interactions with numerous individuals in the days leading up to this attack."
"The investigation is focusing on whether these interactions could have contributed or facilitated, in any way, the terrorist attack subsequently committed by Zehaf-Bibeau," Paulson said in the statement.
The RCMP has asked the Ontario Provincial Police to take over the investigation to make it independent of the national force.
"This nationally scoped investigation remains exceptionally active and fluid," Paulson said. "The RCMP undertakes to get as much information to the public as quickly as we can."
Cirillo will receive a full regimental funeral in Hamilton on Tuesday.
His death came two days after Warrant Officer Patrice Vincent, 53, was run down and killed by radical Islamist Martin "Ahmad" Couture-Rouleau, 25, south of Montreal.
