GRAPHIC CONTENT: Islamic State fighters crush ancient human mummies with truck
ISLAMIC STATE fighters have purportedly filmed themselves destroying ancient human mummies by running them over with a truck.
The terror group used the as-yet unverified video to proudly show off how they destroyed Palmyra's ancient history, including temples and even human remains.
In the footage, ISIS zealots remove an ancient mummy from a temple and lay it on the road.
The mummy, which had survived thousands of years, is then turned into powder in an instant under the wheels of a lorry.
The video also sees jihadists destroying a shrine with the use of explosives.
In March this year Bashar al-Assad's Syrian forces, with the aid of Russian forces, chased ISIS out of the ancient Syrian city – but not before the terror group had destroyed much of the Roman ruins.
ISIS captured the city in May 2015 and began blowing up the major landmarks at the UNESCO-listed world heritage site.
Islamic State horrified the world when they used the 2,000-year-old Roman amphitheatre in Palmyra to perform public executions.
A Russian drone which flew over the amphitheatre showed images believed to be large blood stains.
