Friday Afternoon Roundup - The Evil that Obama Speaks
Posted: 05 Jun 2009 03:50 PM PDT
Obama began his charade of a trip at Cairo, bowing and scraping before the Saudi King, and equating the Holocaust to the Palestinian Arab situation.
Around the world, the Jewish people were persecuted for centuries, and anti-Semitism in Europe culminated in an unprecedented Holocaust. Tomorrow, I will visit Buchenwald, which was part of a network of camps where Jews were enslaved, tortured, shot and gassed to death by the Third Reich. Six million Jews were killed — more than the entire Jewish population of Israel today. Threatening Israel with destruction — or repeating vile stereotypes about Jews —is deeply wrong, and only serves to evoke in the minds of Israelis this most painful of memories while preventing the peace that the people of this region deserve.
On the other hand, it is also undeniable that the Palestinian people... have suffered in pursuit of a homeland. For more than 60 years they've endured the pain of dislocation. Many wait in refugee camps in the West Bank, Gaza, and neighboring lands for a life of peace and security that they have never been able to lead. They endure the daily humiliations — large and small — that come with occupation. So let there be no doubt: The situation for the Palestinian people is intolerable. And America will not turn our backs on the legitimate Palestinian aspiration for dignity, opportunity, and a state of their own.
Then he headed off to Buchenwald to stage his photo op.
While concentration camps have been used for photo ops by politicians before, Obama is using Buchenwald as a prop in his campaign to pressure Israel. After a formula that compared the Holocaust to the Palestinian Arab refugee camps (maintained by their fellow Arabs as a deliberate policy to promote hostilities with Israel), the obvious equation treats Israelis as the new Nazis.
Obama's speech furthermore describes threatening Israel with destruction, genocide, as "deeply wrong." Why is it deeply wrong according to Obama? Because it raises "painful memories" for Israelis, and prevents them from making peace.
Not because planning to kill millions of Jews is wrong. But because talking that way upsets Israel too much to make a deal.
By contrast he describes the Palestinian situation as "intolerable". Killing millions of Jews to Obama is not "intolerable". By contrast Israel not giving the Palestinian Arab terrorists their own state, is intolerable. And of course an intolerable thing is something that Obama will not tolerate.
So just so we're clear, plotting to stage another Holocaust, "deeply wrong", but don't expect Obama to do anything about it. Failing to create a Palestinian state. "Intolerable."
Of course that's just the beginning, and the handful of conservatives and Jewish leaders praising this speech, have simply not read it carefully through all the way. Don't tell me words don't matter, right.
Obama describes the suffering of Americans and Israelis at the hands of terrorists in terms of emotional, and therefore irrational responses. The attacks of 9/11 "was an enormous trauma to our country." Threatening genocide to the Jews "evoke in the minds of Israelis this most painful of memories". This is the way a therapist talks about a patient, not the way a leader talks about the people he is supposed to defend.
Interestingly enough my preview copy of Obama's speech actually managed to hit some of his highlights.
My Preview Copy
I am privileged to be speaking to you today from Cairo's Al Azhar University, the world renowned center of Islamic scholarship. Once upon a time, Islamic science was the envy of the world over. Islamic scholars brought knowledge and faith to Europe and Asia. Informed by their centuries old faith, the greatest minds of Islam helped transform the world with their wisdom, their belief and their intellectual curiosity.
Obama's Speech
I am honored to be in the timeless city of Cairo, and to be hosted by two remarkable institutions. For over a thousand years, Al—Azhar has stood as a beacon of Islamic learning; and for over a century, Cairo University has been a source of Egypt's advancement. And together, you represent the harmony between tradition and progress.
As a student of history, I also know civilization's debt to Islam. It was Islam — at places like Al-Azhar — that carried the light of learning through so many centuries, paving the way for Europe's Renaissance and Enlightenment.

I apologize first of all for our rush to judgment in the aftermath of the man-caused disaster that occurred on September 11. We may never know for certain who was behind these attacks, whether it was extremists operating out of Afghanistan and hijacking the good name of Islam to disguise their links to the CIA, or whether as my hosts have suggested, it was perhaps the Jews. We will never know. But no attack, no amount of carnage justifies the unthinking hatred with which the American people responded to this unfortunate incident.
Obama's Speech
Violent extremists have exploited these tensions in a small but potent minority of Muslims. The attacks of September 11, 2001 and the continued efforts of these extremists to engage in violence against civilians has led some in my country to view Islam as inevitably hostile not only to America and Western countries, but also to human rights. All this has bred more fear and more mistrust.
Of of course it was virtually inevitable that Obama would repeat the myth of Islamic enlightment and minimize the attacks of 9/11, while apologizing for Americans viewing the Islamic Jihad as hostile. But it shows how predictable Obama's ballyhooed teleprompter speeches are getting.
At The Daily Beast, there's a breakdown of how to write your own Obama speech, and it really isn't all that hard at all. Charles Krauthammer at the Washington Post meanwhile points out the inherent hypocrisy of Obama condemning American imperialism in policymaking, only to declare his own diplomatic Jihad against Israel for not knuckling under to terrorism.
President Obama repeatedly insists that American foreign policy be conducted with modesty and humility. Above all, there will be no more "dictating" to other countries. We should "forge partnerships as opposed to simply dictating solutions," he told the G-20 summit. In Middle East negotiations, he told al-Arabiya, America will henceforth "start by listening, because all too often the United States starts by dictating."
An admirable sentiment. It applies to everyone -- Iran, Russia, Cuba, Syria, even Venezuela. Except Israel. Israel is ordered to freeze all settlement activity. As Secretary of State Hillary Clinton imperiously explained the diktat: "a stop to settlements -- not some settlements, not outposts, not natural-growth exceptions."
What's the issue? No "natural growth" means strangling to death the thriving towns close to the 1949 armistice line, many of them suburbs of Jerusalem, that every negotiation over the past decade has envisioned Israel retaining. It means no increase in population. Which means no babies. Or if you have babies, no housing for them -- not even within the existing town boundaries. Which means for every child born, someone has to move out. No community can survive like that. The obvious objective is to undermine and destroy these towns -- even before negotiations.
Naturally.
Speaking of enabling violent racists and anti-semites, Obama is now working closely with Al Sharpton, a man behind racial attacks on Jews and Asians, some of which like the Crown Heights Pogrom and the Freddy's arson, ended in murder.
Al Sharpton is a former drug dealer, a violent racist thug and an all around hatemonger. He is also a shining star of the Democratic party, he has spoken at conventions and now he's getting quite close to Obama.
Al's Back
So far, Sharpton has been to the White House more times, and for more close-up conversations with Obama, than the leaders of other long-established civil rights organizations like the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and the Urban League.
And in April, Vice President Joe Biden addressed the annual convention of Sharpton’s group, the National Action Network, in New York.
Now the Department of Education is making plans for Sharpton to join Secretary Arne Duncan on a five-city tour this fall — an idea that Duncan’s aides say came directly from the White House after the Oval Office meeting.
Naturally Obama couldn't embrace Sharpton too closely, until he was safely seated inside the White House. But now Sharpton, who has been responsible for more hate crimes than David Duke, has an all access pass to Obama.
Elder of Ziyon meanwhile takes on Western naivete toward the Jihad
The biggest single mistake that well-meaning Westerners make when analyzing the Middle East is when they assume that everyone thinks the way they do.
To a Westerner, it seems obvious that organizations that have no logical reason for existence would become irrelevant. In the Arab world, things are quite different.
Westerners look at problems and instinctively try to find optimal, logical solutions. They want to draw a straight line from point A to point B. They create project plans, hold conferences, debate issues, and attempt to make everybody happy - all with the underlying mindset that everyone is like them.
Arabs do not think like we do. Westerners have to stop trying to place the square Arab peg in the round Western hole and actually understand an entirely alien mindset.
From an Arab perspective, the "justification" for Hezbollah is crystal clear and explicit: they will continue to exist until Israel is destroyed. For a large number of Arabs, a peace treaty would be, by definition, between Israel and Arab traitors - a useless gesture whose only possible purpose would be to destroy Israel by stages. To them, Israel's very existence is an unpardonable affront to their honor as Arabs. Hezbollah is not Palestinian.
Even forgetting about Israel, Hezbollah has two other purposes that keep them relevant after any "peace treaty:" they aim to turn Lebanon into a fundamentalist Islamic state, and (more recently) they are enabling Iran to increase its influence in the Middle East. (Syria also finds Hezbollah useful to advance its own interests.)
So too the peace process ultimately strengthened Hamas. And Al Queda gained power from warmer American relations with the Gulf States.
Furthermore terrorist groups are part of a proxy war against Israel, that cannot be resolved with peace treaties that are not concluded with the principals. The principals are in Tehran or in Ridyah. They are not in Ramallah. And they have no need to negotiate with Israel, because they can't be hurt in a proxy war.
IsraelMatzav points out the fallacy of Obama tying the creation of Israel to the Holocaust
The Balfour Declaration preceded the Holocaust by more than thirty years. The Palestine Mandate preceded it by more than twenty years. Israel's existence is not 'justified' by the Holocaust and the Holocaust is not the only time our people were massacred - only the most recent one and probably the largest one in terms of numbers and percentages. While the Holocaust is an important event in Jewish history, there are many other 'justifications' for Israel's existence and they go back much longer than 70 years.
President Obama doesn't get it.
Oh does get it. He just chooses to articulate a position that treats the Jews as colonialist settlers who invaded the Middle East and had to be given a state because everyone felt bad for them after the Holocaust.
Going back to the Balfour declaration would open up a dangerous can of worms that would wind up favoring Israel. And we can't have that.
Speaking of scumbags, Murtha's drug dealer lobbying case continues to unfold
Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa., steered millions of dollars in defense work to a campaign donor and the Pentagon went along with it, even though two convicted drug dealers had been deeply involved with the company.
I seriously can't see how anyone with the slightest modicum of self-respect could utter such a thing. Why in the world can't they take care of themselves? Are they retarded? Are they daft? Are they children? Hell, even children eagerly await the day when they can take care of themselves as they protest "I can do it, let me do it" but then these kids grow up to be democrats and suddenly someone else is expected to "do it" and the liberal democrat is all too willing to make the promises. Except that these "promises" of a false utopianism where every one's need is met is really just a tyranny in disguise.
Exactly, and the nanny state is a pretext for a state of nannies, ultimately run for the benefit of the nannies.
Lemon Lime Moon writes in Perpetual State of Fear
Michael Crichton 's State of Fear showed an environmental group who were willing to drive home their point by murdering thousands through ecological terror. You don't believe us..... we'll show you!
In other words, get your way by creating all manner of threats to them.
Socialistic governments, communist governments make money off the backs of the people they enslave. Slaves are dependent on their masters for everything. Of course a wise master feeds his slave and allows him relatively okay treatment . Starving workers don't produce for you. But they deny you freedom of thought and freedom of innovation and creativity.
To continue to hold people in slavery to you manipulation of their minds is paramount. There must be threats with which to keep them cowering and living in fear. Whether such threats exist or not is not important . It is only important that the slaves think they exist. So you provide external threats, internal threats, and etc.
The sky must always be falling. Cancer is around every corner...the gov must intervene! There are enemies seeking to blow everything up......the government must intervene. Your grass is a carbon enemy... the gov can save you. Cows are killing us all with their emissions...... yet again gov is the hero. The seas are polluted... we have to tax fishermen to the hilt. The air is unclean.... more taxes on gas and planes and cars and motorbikes. You can't afford to be healthy.... so the government will tax you more and give you proven inferior socialized medicine. Even the weather is out to get you now too........ Hurray for government which solves everything!
