Dear Reader: After the success of the fact-finding trip to Israel in 2012, I am leading another one, this time to Cyprus, on October 14-21, 2013. I hope you will join me. Click here for trip details. The deadline is now July 10. The discovery of vast new gas and oil reserves between this Mediterranean island and Israel is a game-changer for the security and energy map of the region. On the one hand, it creates an exciting and stable new source of hydrocarbons for Europe and East Asia. It can help Jordan, which is currently experiencing unrest due to energy shortages. It cements new strategic ties between Greek, Cyprus, and Israel. An Israel rig in the Tamar gas and oil field. On the other hand, the discoveries have enhanced existing tensions.
