The war in Syria between Bashar Assad's Alawite-dominated regime and the rebels trying to overthrow him has been raging for over two years. Following the use of chemical weapons by Assad's forces, the U.S. seems to be heading toward a limited military strike to punish the Assad regime for the use of Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD).
