American Secretary of State John Kerry has promised on behalf of his country to assist in the reconstruction of Gaza after the Operation Protective Edge events. According to Kerry, "The people of Gaza desperately and immediately need our help – not tomorrow and not next week".
A first Palestinian authority achievement in the Gaza Reconstruction Conference: American Secretary of State John Kerry announces Sunday that the U.S. will be sending 212 million dollars to the Gaza reconstruction and aid efforts.

Kerry spoke in the Cairo conference, explaining that "The people of Gaza desperately and immediately need our help – not tomorrow and not next week". Kerry also spoke in favor of reviving talks between Israel and the PA: "Out of this conference must come not just money but a renewed commitment from everybody to work for peace that meets the aspirations of all".

Kerry stressed: "I promise you the full commitment of president Obama, myself and the United States to try and achieve peace". According to him, "Everything else will be a band aid fix, not a long-term solution. Everything else will be the prisoner of impatience and that has brought us to this unacceptable and unstable status quo."

Previous to the American message, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi spoke in the conference, calling out to Israel to end the conflict with the Palestinians: "It's time to make peace". He further added that the Palestinian people must be assisted with reconstructing the Strip.

Palestinian Authority President Mahmud Abbas landed in Egypt yesterday, meeting with the Egyptian foreign affairs minister and the Arab League chairman. The Palestinians hope that founding the grand coalition, which makes the PA responsible for Gaza, will encourage donors worldwide to open up their wallets. At this point it is unclear how generous the countries will be, for they fear of a second round of violence which will take Gaza a step back again.
