UANI Effort Raises Profile of Iran Threat at the GCC Summit
United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) pushed this week for the U.S. and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) to use their collective economic strength to counter Iranian aggression.
On Monday, April 18, UANI Chairman Senator Joseph I. Lieberman; UANI CEO Ambassador Mark D. Wallace; and UANI Co-Founder and Advisory Board Member Dennis Ross conducted a media briefing and previewed what was at stake for President Obama's trip to the GCC Summit in Saudi Arabia.
On the call, the three UANI leaders outlined
six key policy prescriptions for the Summit, describing them as "win-wins" for both the United States and the GCC. Ambassador Ross said on the call, "if [the United States] were to be seen more clearly to be acting to contain what the Iranians are doing in the region... we then suddenly are put in a position where we have, I think, more leverage with the GCC states to get them to do more of what we both want, not only towards Iran... but also vis-à-vis ISIS." A full transcript of the call is available
here.
On the morning of the GCC Summit, April 21, UANI's policy recommendations were featured in a full-page ad in the Wall Street Journal Europe. Click

Ambassador Ross and UANI Advisory Board Member Michael Singh were also featured in news articles analyzing the Summit. Click

UANI applauds the United States and the GCC for recognizing "
the need to remain vigilant about addressing Iran's destabilizing actions in the region," and welcomes the announcement of accelerated efforts toward building an integrated GCC Ballistic Missile Early Warning System, as well as the redoubling of efforts to achieve greater maritime security cooperation. UANI continues to encourage the United States and the GCC to adopt consensus measures to maintain and strengthen financial restrictions on Iran; adopt new and robust sanctions against the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and Hezbollah; and to continue to warn companies about the severe risks of doing business in Iran.
