UANI Statement on Ayatollah Khamenei's Praise for Terror Group Hizbollah
Supreme Leader's Remarks Underscore Risks to Business by Iran's Continued Support for Terrorism, Regional Aggression
New York, NY -
United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI), issued a statement today in response to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei's
praise for Iran's proxy, Lebanese terrorist group Hizbollah.
The
April 15 communique of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC),
endorsed by leaders from than 50 Muslim nations, condemned "Hizbollah for conducting terrorist activities in Syria, Bahrain, Kuwait and Yemen and for supporting terrorist movements and groups undermining the security and stability of OIC Member States." In response and in a series of extraordinary tweets, Supreme Leader Khamenei
lauded Hizbollah for "showing off its power in the Muslim world... Hezbollah and its pious youths are a source of honor for the Muslim world."
The following statement is attributable to UANI CEO Ambassador Mark D. Wallace:
Ayatollah Khamenei's effusive praise for the terrorist organization Hizbollah, against the consensus of more than 50 Muslim world leaders and the global community of nations, demonstrates that Iran intends to continue its close symbiotic relationship with Hizbollah. Despite a worldwide public relations campaign, it remains painfully clear that the fundamental nature of the Iranian regime remains unchanged in the aftermath of the JCPOA.
Given Iran's unwillingness to change its aggressive support of terror, international companies should be wary of returning to Iran, given the immense financial, legal, and reputational risks that loom large.
Following the publication of Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif's op-ed in the Washington Post on April 21, Ambassador Wallace and Senator Lieberman published a
letter to the editor on April 24, refuting its arguments, and highlighting Iran's reprehensible behavior.
