The group I was speaking with last night who gave me this
information suggested contacting other rabbis in the area who would
then contact the Great Neck Synagogue. They also talked about
contacting the chief rabbi of the big synagogue in Manhattan and asking
him to contact Great Neck Synagogue.

Dear friends,
I have telephoned the Great Neck Synagogue (516-487-6100) and found no
one who knew anything about this other than that it was scheduled by
their Men's Club. I left a message and asked that someone return
my call. I specifically said, "This is the equivalent of a
church in the 1930s inviting a representative of the Nazi Party to
speak. Pam Geller has been labeled by both
the Anti-Defamation League and the Southern Poverty Law Center as a
leader of a hate group." I mentioned that I am a
representative of The Interfaith Alliance of Long Island and a
member of The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Shelter Rock.
I suggest that, regardless of whatever else we do, each of us calls the
Synagogue to protest their inviting a noted hate-monger to a house of
worship.

I think Bob has a wonderful suggestion for now. Let's start calling the
Great Neck Synagogue at 516 487 6100 and tell them that it is not
befitting a religious organization to invite a bigot and a known
Islamophobe. Request that you would like to speak with the Rabbi and if
he is not available then leave a message for him. Please do this
tomorrow and pass on this message to your friends and family.

I called yesterday, introduced myself, and said that
before I started organizing protests, I wanted to confirm if what I had
heard was true, since it was hard to believe that a synagogue would
host somebody who'd been condemned as a bigot and hate-monger by the
Anti-Defamation League.
A somewhat perplexed secretary put me through to one of
the rabbis yesterday, who said he knew nothing about her coming but
apparently the men's club invited her. I told him that I hoped they
would reconsider, since this was highly offensive to me and doubtless
to many other folks, the equivalent of a church inviting a Nazi who
claimed Jews were trying to take over America or a mosque inviting an
anti-Semite who claimed that Jews were trying to impose kosher laws on
the nation. I also allowed as how the men's club could have done this
without his knowledge, telling him how when I worked at Riverside
Church, the Men's Club regularly invited right wing fanatics to speak
to their "class" on Sunday mornings.
I think that calling is better at this stage than public
protests, both because the synagogue's leaders may truly be surprised
and embarrassed by what the men's group has done and because we should
avoid giving Geller free publicity: I think she gets off on being so
offensive that it draws attention to herself.

did not put me thru to the Rabbi. They just took message and hung up.
Tom is right at this point lets all make calls and speak to the Rabbi.
