UANI Chairman Sen. Lieberman's Statement Following Secretary Pompeo's Announcement of New Strategy on Iran

New York, NY - United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) Chairman and former U.S. Senator Joseph I. Lieberman (I-CT) issued the following statement on Secretary Mike Pompeo's speech outlining a new strategy on Iran:

"Secretary Pompeo wisely made the case yesterday that the United States needs to confront the danger from Iran in a comprehensive manner. For too long, the United States has focused on the nuclear file to the exclusion of a wide array of additional threatening Iranian activity. While Tehran's nuclear aspirations remain the biggest danger with or without the JCPOA, the international community has devoted far less attention to its sponsorship of terrorism, regional aggression, and human rights abuses.

"The Trump administration must follow President Trump's strong decision and Secretary Pompeo's excellent speech by making clear to the world that there will be no excuses, exclusions, or exemptions from the secondary sanctions being re-imposed by the U.S. in the coming months. Reciting old talking points about how the JCPOA is working while expressing concern over Iran's hegemonic ambitions was a failed policy. Business with Iran funds terrorism-period.

"It's time our partners around the world send Iran a message that the days of using foreign investment to strengthen and export its extremist policies are over."
