PHILADELPHIA — Changing with the times, the Middle East Quarterly will be published exclusively online starting in 2014.
After exactly twenty years in print, supplemented since 2001 by MEQuarterly.org, the paper version will cease publication with the Fall 2013 issue in early September.
The MEQ online has received 11 million page-views, or about a million page-views per year.
MEQ is the only American journal on the Middle East consistent with mainstream opinion and has become an invaluable resource for policymakers, opinion shapers, and the general public. The Times of London has called the Quarterly "balanced, sophisticated and thought-provoking." Library Journal has praised it as "clearly positioned as a major source on its subject."
The Quarterly has been quoted in such media as the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Fox News, and Reuters. Internationally, Canada's Globe and Mail, Great Britain's Telegraph and Financial Times, Germany's Die Welt, Turkey's Zaman, the UAE's Al-Ittihad, and the Palestinian Al-Quds al-'Arabi have relied on it.
In addition to many universities, MEQ articles have been included in the curricula of military institutions such as the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, the National Defense Intelligence College, the U.K. Royal College of Defence Studies, and the Swedish National Defense Academy.
The MEQ has developed an international reputation, with research centers around the world reprinting and distributing its articles, including Frankfurt's Fritz Bauer Institute, The Ankara Center for Political and Economic Research, Dubai's Al-Mesbar Studies and Research Centre, and Calcutta's The IBS Research Center.
Starting with the Winter 2014 issue, readers will be able to access each quarterly issue online immediately upon publication. Subscribers to the MEQ mailing list will receive mailings of individual articles spaced out over the course of the quarter.
The Quarterly has become known for the careful research, new information, and in-depth analysis of its articles, its original documents, and its incisive book reviews. The MEQ remains the place to go for reliable and accessible information on the world's most volatile region.
