Join Daniel Pipes on a FACT-FINDING EXPEDITION TO CYRPUS October 14-21, 2013 Time is running out; reservations must be made by July 5th! Dear Reader: I will lead a fact-finding trip to Cyprus October 14-21, 2013. We will focus on two topics. First, the discovery of vast new gas and oil reserves between this Mediterranean island and Israel has changed the region's security and energy map, creating both an exciting new potential and worrisome threats. Second, as Turkey's Prime Minister Erdoğan makes ever clearer by the day, his government may be democratically elected but it rules aggressively and unpredictably. How will this affect Greece, Cyprus, Israel, Syria, and beyond? We will explore these game-changing issues in depth through extensive travels and lively discussions. Building on an excellent experience in Israel in March 2012, the trip will be organized by Heritage Study Programs (which also handled that trip) and by the Thucydides Think Tank (which hosted me in Cyprus in 2011). Turkish warning signs surround the ghost town of Varosha, Cyprus. Travel will include visits to the towns of Nicosia, Limasol, Famagusta, Kyrenia, and to the country's beautiful mountains and beaches. In addition to my analysis throughout the week, you will hear from and meet policymakers, business leaders, journalists, and academics from both the Greek and Turkish sides of Cyprus, as well as from select Israeli specialists.
