BUS ATTACK: Islamist Terrorists Slaughter Coptic Christians In Egypt
Islamist terrorism has struck again. At least 26 Coptic Christians were slaughtered when Islamist gunmen attacked a bus in central Egypt.
The bus was heading toward the Monastery of Saint Samuel the Confessor, over 100 kilometers south of Cairo.Egypt’s Coptic Christian community has faced horrific violence at the hands of Islamist terrorists. On Palm Sunday, two separate suicide bombings killed 46 people during church services in the cities of Tanta and Alexandria.
And in December, a Coptic church in Cairo was bombed, killing 29 people.
In addition to outright slaughter, a climate of fear has descended upon the Coptic community in Egypt. An outbreak of violent attacks forced many Christians to flee the northwestern town of el-Arish in early 2017.
Children among the dead
It appears the Islamist terrorists set up a fake checkpoint, stopping the bus before opening fire with assault rifles. It is believed that children are among those murdered by the terrorists.Egypt was once a majority Christian country. Islam became the majority religion in Egypt around 1453. The vast majority of Egyptian Christians are in the Coptic Orthodox Church. Christians are believed to comprise between 10-15% of the Egyptian population.
Coptic Christians have faced escalating violence in recent years, and were under severe threat from the government during the short-lived Muslim Brotherhood regime. The new Egyptian Government under the leadership of Abdel Fattah el-Sisi has made it a priority to defend the Coptic Christian community, but the disturbing spread of radical Islamism in Egypt has made that task incredibly difficult.
Christians under attack worldwide
While the elites ignore this fact, Christianity is the most persecuted religion on Earth. While our so-called “leaders” succumb to political correctness here at home – often refusing to even use the word “Islamism” or other terms for the threat we face – leaders in the Middle East and other parts of the world brutally suppress Christianity and other faiths. Even being caught with a Bible in Saudi Arabia can lead to jail-time and a brutal public whipping.That’s why we must continue to spread the truth about what is happening to the Coptic Christian community in Egypt. The death toll caused by radical Islamism continues to rise, and only by confronting the problem honestly can we begin to turn the tide.
