Christine Williams: My personal warning to Icelanders
On a visit to Iceland, I joined Robert Spencer for a speech on May 11th at an event at the Grand Hotel in Reykjavik, entitled: “Everything you wanted to know about Islam but were afraid to ask.” Prior to the visit, Spencer was already demonized by the Reykjavik Grapevine publication as an “Islamophobe” who promoted hate and racism. I was also identified as such due to my writing for Jihad Watch.
The group that hosted the event was Vakur, which according to the Grapevine “is dedicated to ‘European culture’ but seem to be more about Islamophobia and general hatred of foreigners.”
It was immediately apparent to me that the Icelandic population was being duped, as have been the citizens of other Western nations, and particularly those of countries in Europe, which are experiencing a rapid deterioration in social order and cohesiveness due to a powerful Islamic supremacist surge. This surge has been further empowered by far-left media and politicians, who really have no interest beyond a socialist agenda of chaos packaged in a pretentious candy-wrap of unity, peace, acceptance, tolerance and multiculturalism. Indeed, nothing is wrong with getting along with thy neighbor, but it is a two-way street.
In November 2015, the President of Iceland, Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson, stated that he feared that Saudi Arabian financing of a Reykjavik mosque “will fuel radical Islam in Iceland”:
The president told the Icelandic National Broadcasting Service that he was shocked to the point of paralysis when he learned last March, in a meeting with Saudi Arabian Ambassador, that the government of Saudi Arabia had decided to interfere in Icelandic religious life by donating one million US Dollars to the planned mosque. The president did not speak up about these concerns until after the terrorists attacks in Paris.What makes Iceland particularly vulnerable is that the influx of new Muslim neighbors are not being vetted by authorities, nor by the general population at large. The reason for this lexity was expressed quite well in a radio interview with a Reykjavik radio host, “Frosty,” in which I participated prior to the Grand Hotel speaking event. “Frosty” sincerely asked me how difficult I thought it might be for the small Muslim population in Iceland to be subjected to fear and suspicion. This concern is noble, but it is rendering unsuspecting Westerners vulnerable to Islamic supremacists.
Before I go on with this very important concern, let me explain my impression of Iceland from the perspective of being myself a visible minority, including my impression of the so-called “hatred-of-foreigners” group, Vakur: I am an equal mix of Scottish, Chinese, black and Indian/native Indian, with some of the most common names of these races in my family: Chin, Singh and Douglass. Upon my arrival in Iceland, I experienced warmth, smiles and acceptance, not only from the organizers at Vakur but from restaurant employees and others as well. The only cold reception was from the unseasonably fierce Icelandic winds and chilly temperatures that week.
The irony of my experience on “Frosty”’s show and of how we were received in general by the moderate left was that this group is eager to welcome foreigners with open arms, which is admirable on the one hand, but on the other hand, in today’s climate, it is dangerous. I explained during my time there, while discussing the loopholes of multiculturalism, that Westerners need to be street smart as citizens of a culture that idolizes multiculturalism, both as it is enshrined in law and as it is accepted informally.
I was referred to as “controversial” on a radio show and accused of spreading hate by a Salafi imam during the talk on the evening of the 11th. In typical fashion, this imam had no intelligent reasons for his accusations other than asking me in “what countries are stonings happening.” I tried to point out the folly of his question, as they happen all across the Muslim world, and pointed out that anyone in the audience could look up that simple piece of information. It is indisputable. One fellow in the audience took my challenge seriously by looking up the information on his cell phone and proceeded loudly to “educate” the imam, amid laughter and applause from the audience (Afghanistan, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Yemen, Iraq, Qatar, Mauritania, Saudi Arabia, northern Nigeria, Aceh Province in Indonesia, Afghanistan, and in parts of Pakistan). The imam proceeded to query when exactly was the last stoning and who was stoned. By then, it was clear that he was making inept excuses to tie up important time. I proceeded to discuss with the audience the value of genuine interfaith and diversity dialogues, which intend to unify populations. I also discussed with them the fact that racism and discrimination take place not only between white people and every other group, as Islamic supremacists and leftists would have them believe, but also between groups. Between-group discrimination is very much alive, including the practice of black slavery by Muslims in Mauritania and Sudan.
In answer to “Frosty”’s question about the psychological stress of Muslims being under suspicion, I indicated that if I belonged to a group that gave others reason to be suspicious, I would quickly allay such suspicions by offering to answer questions in meaningful discussions. I would also allow the host society to surveil my mosque, since I have nothing to hide. The problem is that study after study has proven that jihadist doctrine, including the superiority of the Sharia and the necessity for conquest, is taught in mosques.
Robert Spencer and I experienced several troubling instances in Iceland, but the worst was after the talk, when a group of us went to for a few drinks at a local restaurant-bar. Someone slipped a brew of amphetamines, Ritalin and Ecstasy into Mr. Spencer’s drink. He was hospitalized that night and took the rest of the time in Iceland recovering, but making efforts to continue meetings and to be a good sport about a little sightseeing. No doubt his enemies and detractors celebrated his injury; but they injured an innocent man. They also injured a symbol of freedom and a fighter for the safety that Western democracy provides. His injury represented only a fraction of the injury with which Islamic supremacists and jihadists have already afflicted Western nations.
The branding of Spencer and Vakur (and now me) was false. The socialist left and Islamic supremacists claimed to speak against hate, but they represent hate. They speak of acceptance and tolerance, but no one can match their own intolerance of intellectual diversity and pluralism. They speak of unity and of welcoming the stranger while they spread disunity and contention, and do not seem to care about other “strangers” around them who warn them about jihad and Islamic supremacism.
My personal letter to Icelanders:
You are in trouble. Your numbers are too small in a vast land to continue as you are, in allowing Islamic supremacist incursion into your country as you have. You have unwittingly allowed it, being taken in by your own acceptance and tolerance of immigrants, which is admirable. Your nation has evolved, as all Western states have evolved, to be willing to welcome minorities from every country of the globe, and you have implemented a constitution that declares the equality of everyone under the law. But you need street smarts with regard to immigrants. Islamic supremacists will smile at you, invite you to their gatherings, make you feel loved and welcome, but they do it to deceive you and to overtake you, your land and your freedoms. They intentionally make you feel guilty for questioning their torturous deeds toward humanity — toward women, Christians, gays, Jews, apostates, infidels and anyone who dares to oppose these deeds. If they were genuine, they would make no apologies for such abuses globally, but they would offer to make amends by contributing to the reform of the thinking of their coreligionists, bringing them to deem all humans to be equal in their eyes. They would not accuse you of racism if you question them, which you should do if you really care about the lives and well-being of your fellow human beings globally.
Many friendly, seemingly “moderate” Muslims are deceiving you. You already have a mosque in your tiny country that is funded by Saudi Arabia, a country that advocates Wahhabism — a barbaric ideology that sanctions male Muslim supremacy and human rights abuses under the Sharia. I am told that another such mosque is planned in your capital of Reykjavik. They tell you that Sharia is harmless, but they are not telling you the truth. Sharia stipulates – among other abuses — death for apostasy, death for gays, a lower value to women, and the full covering of women according to Quran 24:31 and Quran 33:59 (so that she not encourage men to abuse her). Islamism is normative Islam, and there is no higher law than Islamic law; Sharia is considered by mainstream Muslims to be divine law. Under it, conquest of non-Muslims is a duty and a requirement.
Since the fall of the Ottoman Empire, Islamic supremacist leaders have sought to recapture the glory days of the Ottomans, and the restoration of Islamic hegemony and supremacy.
You may ask, “What can we do?”
For starters, you can reject the “Islamophobia” lies against you. You are not an “Islamophobic” nation. You are, rather, accepting. Notice that you will not hear other minority groups attacking you (unless they are indoctrinated with Islamic supremacist propaganda). No other group seeks conquest, and no other group is guilty of ubiquitous wanton human rights abuses globally, while at the same time screaming that they are victimized by “the colonialists” and “the imperialists.”
You and other Western nations are collectively far beyond those regrettable days, and you must stand up and defend your constitution. Freedom was bought at a very high price.
When you sit down and include Muslims in dialogue sessions, make sure that they the kind of Muslims who welcome questions and accept pluralism, and understand that immigration and multiculturalism is a two-way street. Make sure that they openly declare that Jews and Christians are equal in all ways as Muslims, and that they reject Sharia law in all forms. Do not be fooled by their smiles.
There are Muslims throughout history who sought to reform Islam, but were murdered as apostates. They understood that the immutability of Sharia decrees needed to be challenged, and that the “official closed corpus” needed to be challenged as well as the ulema and every soldier of Islamic dictatorship.
Your politicians are afraid. Your media is afraid, and so they are not fair and balanced. They lie to you and they shut down public discourse because they are not seeking truth. Many accused Robert Spencer of hate, based on the heinous actions and the word of one evil man named Anders Breivik. They have taken Breivik at his word in his statements of being inspired by Mr. Spencer. Why would anyone believe a man like Breivik and be willing to crucify an innocent man without just cause? What kind of embarrassing mentality simply follows a murderous neo-Nazi without investigation? Such passive minds are siding with the enemies of freedom, fairness, rule of law and human rights.
I am a visible minority myself, and I have witnessed no hate in Robert Spencer, nor among anyone at Vakur, but I have found plenty of hate and intolerance among Islamic supremacists and their leftist collaborators.
Be careful, Icelanders. You are being manipulated. Fight for your freedoms. Be accepting to those who offer your children a good future, and do not allow Islamic supremacists, greedy politicians and a controlled media to destroy the work of your ancestors and a fine development of the principles of human rights. Deep within you may be a nagging fear that the man (Robert Spencer) poisoned could have been you. The man demonized could be you, and indeed, the victim could be you one day, and worse. The more that the enemies of freedom, democracy, unity and pluralism gain ground, the more danger innocent citizens are in. Women and girls have been raped across Europe and in other parts of the Western world because of a doctrine that states that Muslim men can take infidel women.
Infidels have been plundered and beaten, and jihadist attacks have left a trail of incalculable carnage and grief. Jihadists are coming for you, no matter how much other Muslims may smile at you and appear friendly. Stand watch and pay attention to what is being preached in mosques, because oftentimes hate is being preached, supremacy is being preached, and jihad against the infidel is being preached. No friendly Muslim will throw out “Islamophobia” accusations against you, or even use the word. I have interviewed well-known reformists in Canada and the U.S., each with his or her own following, and every one of them rejects the word “Islamophobia,” because each knows that it is being used against you to shut down your freedom of speech and your right to question Islam. Icelanders, it is important to be friendly, but it is imperative to choose your friends wisely.
